Searching #77: Images - POST

1. The Santa on page 10 of the Christmas Category.

2. The Flickr site is a good site for searching pictures. There are a lot of pictures and images on there which would make a great place to look. Another Picture website I liked was the Picsearch.com site. Picsearch.com has access to over 3 billion images and is really easy to use.

3. The picture I picked is MONEY since we're in closing the old budget to get ready for the new budget.

The 3 sounds I picked are 2001 : A Space Odyssey , JAWS , STAR WARS.

Searching #75: Google and Beyond - POST

I seem to always use google as the main search engine. I made three queries and ended up choosing all three search engines. After this I will try to use the other search engines a little more.

Google seems to be the biggest search engine in the web as the other top 2 don't even come close to it. I knew google was big, but didn't think it was that far ahead of the other search engines.

When I clicked on the google link for the search, I did not realize that you can search all types criteria and patents. I like the feature that bing has where you can preview the website before you click on it.

POST : iHCPL: Texting Module

I use the text messaging regurlarly. I have sent text messages in an emergency for example during the hurricane Ike. I try to shorten the words that I am typing just to save time, just so it can be shortcuts, on my phone I have phrases that are already typed or I can save the messages that I use regurlarly. The lingo2word was real cool, now I have somewhere to go check to see what there text messages mean. Texting and driving is really dangerous, don't know how people can do it. I seen people texting and driving and wondered how they now what they are typing cause it gets hards trying to make sure you type in the right message.

POST-Spring Cleaning #30: Take a Load Off Our Drives

It is easy to create files and move files on there. I found some excel spreadsheets that I use for keeping track of orders that I ordered. The oldest file that I found on there was from last year's slideshow of the awards. I found that I was more organized than I thought.

POST-Spring Cleaning #29: Email

I try to clean my email accounts as much as I can so I don't have clutter. I have a yahoo account and try to keep it clean of old emails and ones that I don't need anymore. On my Microsoft Outlook at work I made folders so that I can separate emails for order confirmations and purchase request approvals. I try to keep only the emails that are important to me.

POST-Spring Cleaning #28: Don’t Clutter Up Expensive Cyberspace

I liked the online calendars thing, the google calendar is pretty good cause it comes with the mail option. I like to use the Microsoft Office Outlook email when I'm at work. Helps me keep track of training, and meetings that I need to know. I like to use the yahoo calendar once in a while for when I'm at home.

Week 10: #23 Is this really the end? Or just the beginning... - POST

My favorite discoveries were the avatars, bloglines, and youtube.

It helped my goals on this cause I didn't know if I was able to finish the project. But I did, and I learned more about blogging than I ever knew.

Overall it was pretty easy to do a blog and get it started.

An idea is probably to have a blog about people that read books and recommending them to other patrons.

I would probably hold off on other web 2.0 programs, till I get more experience on the ones that I just learned.

Week 9: #22 Downloadable Media - POST

The downloadable media is really interesting. I never downloaded a book or audiobook, now that I kind of familiarized myself with I think I will download one. The HCPL Ebranch has quite a large title base. The HCPL website was really easy to use since I already have a library card. There were some titles on the website that looked interesting.

Week 9: #21 Podcasts, Smodcasts! - POST

Podcasts are really cool, I found interesting ones on music bands interviews. I sometimes listen to the podcasts that the radio stations do on artists. There are a lot of podcasts out there for just about every subject. I subscribed to the thisishouston podcast.

Week 9: #20 Discover YouTube and other video sharing sites - POST

I have experience using youtube.com websites whether i'm looking for music videos, live performances of bands, or seeing random things that they have on there. I think you can probably find anything on there that you are looking for. I've found movie trailers on there before they were posted on the official websites. I looked for this video of my favorite band TOOL, I didn't embedded it from youtube, but I got it from msn videos.

Why TOOL is COOL

Week 8: #19 Web-based Apps: They're not just for desktops - POST

The ZOHO web based program will be really useful. It is good to have all the applications all on one web based program. It even has chat on there so you can instant message a friend if you get writer's block. I like that it saves your documents on there and don't have to worry about remembering your usb drive.

Week 8: #18 Social Networking: Making friends in the comfort of your own home - POST

The world of social networking is really cool. I looked at the different networking sites and they were really interesting. My sister and cousins use the myspace site for staying in contact with each other. The yahoo 360 looks real easy to use since i have a yahoo account already. The threadless site was cool, so many interesting shirts. I have a friend who's into nascar and will recommend the infieldparking to him.

Week 7: #17 Blog About Technology - POST

This will probably be a good item for the holidays.

SILVER SEAL Antibacterial Dishwasher Safe Mouse & Keyboard

By Shane McGlaun

If you have small kids or work in an office where several people share your mouse and keyboard you are probably aware that the mouse and keyboard of most computers are hotbeds for germs and viruses. Seal Shield has a new mouse and keyboard called the SILVER SEAL that have antibacterial properties and can be washed in the dishwasher.

This is the ideal mouse and keyboard for use in medical settings since the silver ion is embedded into the plastic so the antibacterial properties don’t wear off over time. When it comes time to clean the mouse and keyboard of dirt and debris, they are both completely submergible and dishwasher safe. The SILVER SEAL mouse and keyboard will begin shipping in November at an undisclosed price.

Week 7: #16 So what's in a wiki? - POST

The wiki excercise was really fun. Cool to see all the opinions of the ihcpl staff about the movies they enjoy and pets they love. It's real user friendly once you figure out how to use the website.
